Weatherization Barn-Raising at Grace Church
Thank you to all the volunteers who applied their hands and skills to save energy and water at Grace Church. We had over 30 volunteers including Tufts students, Grace Church parishioners and other volunteers from Medford and beyond. Together we accomplished a lot (everything on the list for which we had materials). We hope everyone learned something that they will be able to apply elsewhere and that everyone had fun.
We would like to extend an extra special thank you to the Team Leaders, without whom we would not have known what or how to do the work.
* Audrey Schulman (HEET) * Bob Ellis * Jim Pearson, Sr. * Jim Pearson, Jr. * Wes Foote, Jr.
Stay tuned to the Greening Grace Blog to find out how much carbon dioxide emissions we will avoid thanks to your hard work. Early estimates for savings are:
· $1,300 per year in energy and water · 6,400 lbs of CO2 per year · 34,000 gallons of water per year
Outreach Corner
Current and upcoming outreach opportunities:
Inspect, sort, and repack "salvaged" food and grocery products for the Greater Boston Food Bank. The items then get distributed to nearly 600 hunger-relief agencies throughout Massachusetts. Join the Grace Church crew on Saturday 18 September from 1:00-3:30 PM. (Note: volunteers must be 16+ for this). There is a sign-up sheet on the Outreach Corner bulletin board, in the parish hall near the books. For more information, contact Nanci Palladino at nanci.palladino57@comcast.net or call 781-395-4108.
Provide Food Giving Cards or funds for these gift cards for those in need who come to Grace Church looking for help. You can provide either the cards themselves (Johnnie's Foodmaster is the most useful) or funds to purchase cards (clearly marked "For Food Giving Cards"), either of which can be placed in the collection plate. Thanks!
Bring food to church for the three food pantries that Grace Church supports. Food items may be placed in the baskets just outside the main entrance to the sanctuary. The item for next Sunday is Peanut Butter.
